George Rogers Clark football coach Paul Columbia spent some time checking on his former players during an open date this week.

Columbia sent an e-mail with updates on his former players now participating in the collegiate ranks.

Robert Catron is a starting linebacker at Georgetown College and is third on the team in tackles with 13 solos and 19 assists. Catron has recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.

Clint Greene is turning heads on the scout team at Eastern Kentucky this season and is spending most of his time going against the Colonels' first-team defense as it prepares for the next opponent.

Eastern running backs coach John Revere likes Green's progress.

"He had to sit out as a (proposition) guy last year and he did what he had to do (in the classroom) to get on the field," he said. "He has done some real nice things. He's a powerful runner, a strong runner and an aggressive kid. I think we'll be able to utilize him in the scheme of things."

Revere said Greene has a chance to make the roster next season.

"For all of our walk-ons, we have that opportunity (a scholarship) available," he said. "He was a kid we looked at in high school and thought he could come in as a preferred walk-on. He is a kid we think can contribute at some point and time."

Cats to play Colonels

Eastern Kentucky has made it official.

The University of Kentucky will play host to the Colonels on the gridiron for the third time and the second time in three years next season.

The Colonels released their 2009 football schedule this week, verifying a date with the Wildcats.

The two teams will meet on Nov. 7 at Commonwealth Stadium.

The two teams played last year, with the Wildcats posting a 50-10 win over the Colonels.
