Ring, ring: Calling all Clarks, Rustys

October 22, 2008|Mike Moore

It's hard to believe that in just over nine weeks Christmas will be here. With that in mind, I've been thinking about some holiday-themed story ideas for upcoming editions of The Jessamine Journal.

And then it hit me. Christmas time also means it's getting to be the time of fancy light decorations in many yards across Jessamine County.

So I thought I'd call on our readers for your suggestions. Here's the theme: The Griswolds of Jessamine. If you know of yards that are decorated to the hilt, let us know about it.

The plan is simple. Journal staff members will to go out while the lights and decorations are being put up, take some photos, interview those setting up the scenes for some stories for the Neighbor section in the weeks leading up to Christmas 2008. The only caveat is the house has to be in Jessamine County.

The series will begin with the Dec. 4 issue, and it will run through the Christmas Day edition. That leaves room for four feature stories, so the ones the Journal selects will have to be above the ordinary.

You can send your suggestions to mmoore@jessaminejournal.com or fax them to 887-2966. We'll need contact information, i.e. telephone number or e-mail to contact those whom you've recommended for this feature series. You may include a past photo of a decorated yard.

If we get more than four responses, the Journal's staff will select the four we feel would best fit the theme: The Griswolds of Jessamine. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Nov. 4.

Odds and ends:

â?¢ Thanks to all the candidates who participated in last week's Nicholasville City Commission/ 39th District forum sponsored by The Jessamine Journal. Though the flu-bug left me bed-ridden, I understand it was a nice turnout. Also, a big thanks to the folks at Nicholasville United Methodist Church for allowing the forum to be held at its Community Center. Another thanks to my staff for doing a great job.

â?¢ A reminder, the Journal will host the Wilmore City Council forum tonight at 6 p.m. at the Wilmore Senior Community Center at Wesley Village. The event is free and open to the public.

â?¢ And finally, kudos to the Nicholasville Police Department for taking a proactive approach with its new Rape Aggression Defense System - a program offered to high school senior females to teach defensive tatics in the event they're attacked - it was offered last week during fall break.
