Net Xpress: How to solve your scanning dilemma

October 27, 2008|SHEILA J. CLARK

Ever get the error message: "Could not complete Import Command because of a problem with the aquisition module interface" when trying to scan from inside Photoshop?

If so, there is an easy way to solve this dilemma.

The reason you receive this error message is because there was a broken preview file of the last item you scanned.

So, to remedy the situation, what you will need to do is delete the broken preview file.

To find the broken preview file, you need to click on My Computer, then navigate into the following directory:

C:Documents and Settings(insert your profile username here)Application DataEPSONESCNDV

Note: Where (insert your profile username here) is, type your actual profile name without the parenthesis.

For instance, for me, it would be C:Documents and SettingssheilaApplication DataEPSONESCNDV.

In this directory, there should be one or more folders. Open each folder until you find the preview image of your last scanned item.

Next simply delete that broken preview image and for extra measure, empty it from your trash as well.

The image is usually named Full.bmp. If your PC is set to where it doesn't show the file extensions, it will appear as only Full.

If you completed the above steps properly, you should be able to scan again.

Happy scanning!

Windows security update

Microsoft has released an out-of-band security bulletin to alert users of a critical flaw in Windows 2000/XP SP2/XP Pro x64/Windows Service 2003/2008 and Vista. Learn more at www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-oct.mspx.

Linux update

A great tool to have in your Linux toolkit is UNetbootin. This software is a Universal Netboot Installer that enables its user to install Linux distros on a hard-drive partition or USB flash drive.

The best part is that it doesn't require users to burn a CD first.

Using UNetbootin enables users to quickly, easily and painlessly install the ISO image directly onto their preferred media with a few clicks of their mouse.

UNetbootin runs under Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Linux.

If you need to download a distribution for use in conjuction with UNetbootin, a broadband Internet connection also is required.

A hard drive with free space or a USB flash drive is required for installation.

The software currently supports built-in installation capabilities of 21 distros including some of the most popular distros such as Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Mandriva and Puppy.

UNetbootin can install other distros simply by pointing it to the proper location of the ISO image.

Learn more about Unetbootin at http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/.
