Tender Heart offering pet memorial services

October 29, 2008|Seth Littrell

The Tender Heart Pet Memorial, a full-service funeral home for pets, recently opened its doors in Nicholasville. The business, which is owned by Mike and Mary Carter and Geoff and Joanna Brewer, provides a variety of services for those looking for ways to remember their pets and is the first of its kind in central Kentucky.

Tender Heart Pet Memorial offers a wide variety of both cremation and burial options for pets. The cremation and burial options start with the $225 dignity package, which includes pickup of the pet from a home or veterinarian's office, a framed portrait of the pet on the Memory Wall of the Tender Heart building, a tribute on the Tender Heart Web site and additional services relating to cremation and burial.

The devotion package includes all of those options, as well as private time with the deceased pet in the chapel of the Tender Heart building and a pet loss package, with a cost of $325. The full tribute cremation package and the final tribute burial package both have a base cost of $425 and include all of the previously mentioned options plus a memorial service in the chapel.

"One of the things we try to do is have the very minimal thing that anybody would want, up to providing accommodations for almost anything a pet owner would want," Geoff Brewer said.

Tender Heart also offers a variety of different urns and caskets for a pet's final resting place. Three different casket finishes, unpainted, painted and stained oak, are offered in a number of dimensions to accommodate different pet sizes. The casket sizes range from 16 inches long, eight inches wide and six inches in height to 52 inches long, 22 inches wide and 15 inches in height.

According to Geoff Brewer, Tender Heart would also plans to start offering group grief counseling sessions one night per week.

Tender Heart Pet Memorial is located at 713 N. Main St. in Nicholasville, and can also be found on the internet at www.tenderheartpetmemorial.com and reached by phone at 881-5555.
