Homes needed for big dogs at Danville Tractor Supply

November 05, 2008

Tractor Supply will host its second "Big Dogs Rule" Adoption Party with the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Humane Society is looking to place many of its larger dogs and large-breed puppies at a one-time price of $55. The adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, first round of shots, worming, rabies voucher and a Boyle County dog license.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to get these great dogs into a good home and for us to meet and talk with other animal lovers in our community," said Jan Wertz, board president of the Humane Society. "The management at Tractor Supply has been very kind to us, and we are very appreciative of their support and generosity."

The Humane Society will bring several large-breed dogs including a St. Bernard mix, Australian shepherds, boxer, German shepherd mixes, hounds, labs and lab mixes. In addition, they will have a number of large-breed puppies including border collie, lab and hound mixes.

The shelter also will be open that day for people who don't see the dog they need at Tractor Supply. The shelter staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions and help with adoption applications.

The event is in coordination with National Shelter Week, which ends Saturday.
