He was a former associate pastor of the Epperson First Church of God, where he taught the adult Sunday school class, was chairman of the board of directors, and served as either a deacon or an elder for more than 55 years. He also served as a lay minister for the First Church of God for Eastern Kentucky for more than 50 years.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, attended the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, assisted the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a weather and research volunteer, and was a member of the Estill County Fair Board for more than 45 years.

Survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law, Cecil James and Mollie Hampton Jr. of Winchester; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra G. Hampton of Irvine and Sharon and Eli Gay of Irvine; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and many more who called him Granddaddy; a brother, the Rev. Eugene Hampton of Clark County; and three sisters, Nora Skinner of Cincinnati and Sally Haggard and Betty Ballard, both of Clark County.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Ray Hampton and Dwight Lewis Hampton; a grandson, Bradley Lee Shelton; a brother, Robert R. Hampton Jr.; and two sisters, Martha Palmer and Retha Hampton.

Funeral services for Mr. Hampton will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec 2, at Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. Chris Williams and Bro. Clarence Turner. Burial will be in the Fielder Cemetery in Palmer, Ky.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Hampton's grandsons with his granddaughters to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Scobee Funeral Home.

Norma Jean Haddix Hedger

Norma Jean Haddix Hedger, 71, of 4 N. Maple St., died Thursday at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.

She was the widow of Millard (Pete) Hedger. A homemaker, she was a member of Ark of Mercy Church of God. She was a native of Jackson and a daughter of the late George Walter (Green) Haddix and Florence Molands Haddix Flack.

Surviving relatives are five sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil (Helen) Perkins of Trapp, Danny Ray (Deana) Perkins of Sevierville, Tenn., Arnold Eugene (Paige) Perkins of Lexington, Charles Wayne (Frances) Highley of Brooksville, Fla., Calvin Todd (Nikki) Highley of Springhill, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Ann (Ron) Chism of Winchester, Judy Kay (Bill) Thompson of Eaton, Ohio; two brothers and three sisters; 18 grandchildren, including a precious granddaughter, Schtina Dyonne Spicer-Jones; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. today at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., conducted by Pastor Janice Claypool. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
