The Danville Salvation Army raised $10,652 in the first six days of bell-ringing during its 2008 Christmas kettle campaign, Lt. Dan Nelson said Thursday.
The army is hoping to get a boost in its kettle collection totals over the next three Fridays and Saturdays. Three local businesses have agreed to make matching donations to whatever amounts of money are dropped into kettles during those weekends. Here is the lineup of donors and the amounts they will match:
* Community Trust Bank will match up to $2,000 for Friday and Saturday.
* Symbiotix will match up to $5,000 for Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.
* Danville Office Equipment will match up to $5,000 for Dec. 19 and Dec. 20.
"We are very grateful for these businesses and for our community's generosity this Christmas season," Nelson said.
The goal this year is $85,000, which goes to support all of the army's programs throughout the year, including its Christmas projects.
