Letter: Parade showed Christmas spirit

December 08, 2008

Dear Editor,

Whenever there's a flurry of activity downtown, one just knows something special is about to happen, as evidenced last week in preparation for the annual tree lighting and Christmas parade. The Danville Christmas Parade is the ultimate celebration of Christmas spirit. From stringing lights and hanging wreathes to festive storefront displays and artistic events, downtown Danville's Christmas spirit was at its finest on Friday night.

On behalf of the Heart of Danville Main Street Program, we wish to thank these groups for their contributions: The City of Danville Fire Department and Public Works Department for putting the holiday spirit on Main; the Danville Police Department, which coordinated traffic and ensured that those with special needs were able to park and enjoy the parade; the staff and volunteers of the Community Arts Center for hosting the Parade After Party; the many businesses, individuals and civic groups who braved the chilly weather to entertain the crowds and spread their holiday cheer.

An event of this nature would not be possible without our numerous volunteers. I want to thank everyone who gave time to plan and implement the tree lighting, parade and after party at the Community Arts Center. Their contributions made an ordinary Friday night simply extraordinary.
