December 18, 2008|TODD KLEFFMAN

LANCASTER - Garrard Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Grubbs has been suspended indefinitely while state authorities investigate the possibility of official misconduct in her office.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John D. Minton signed the suspension order Tuesday that prohibits Grubbs from having any access to the clerk's office, either physically or electronically.

"Ms. Grubbs is temporarily relieved of any authority to conduct the financial affairs or any financial activity on behalf of the Garrard Circuit Clerk's office ... until further order of this court," the order states.

Grubbs, who has served in the position since 1993, could not be reached for comment this morning.

Leigh Anne Hiatt, spokeswoman for the Administrative Office of the Courts, said the internal investigation will be conducted by Court of Justice personnel. Hiatt declined to comment about the nature of the possible misconduct or what spurred the investigation.

Garrard Circuit Judge Hunter Daugherty said this morning that he has not been made aware of "what the specific allegations are" against Grubbs. The investigation was initiated by AOC personnel, the judge said.

Minton's order appoints Woodford Circuit Clerk Tricia Kittinger to oversee the Garrard office as a special circuit clerk during Grubbs' suspension.
