Salvation Army kettle drive still needs $15,000

December 22, 2008

The Salvation Army of Danville has raised more than $70,000 toward its 2008 Christmas kettle campaign goal of $85,000.

"With just two and a half more days to go, the goal of $85,000 is still a stretch, but not out of reach," said Lt. Dan Nelson, co-commander of the local army.

"We had a great weekend," said Nelson, referring to donations to kettles Friday and Saturday.

Danville Office Equipment agreed to match donations for the weekend totaling up to $5,000, and the kettles alone brought in more than $12,500, he said. Add in the $5,000 match, and the army raised more than $17,500 in two days, he said.

"The generosity of our community and the surrounding communities continues to amaze us," said Nelson.

The red kettles will be out through midday Wednesday.
