Boyle court OKs opay increase for employees

The Boyle County Fiscal Court voted Tuesday night to approve a 2.5 percent across-the-board increase in salaries and wages for county employees, effective Jan. 1.

The court's vote was a routine action done annually at this time of year.

However, county employees could receive an additional increase on top of the 2.5 percent pay hike when the state certifies the cost of living rate around March.

If the certified cost of living rate represents an increase over a year earlier, the court would add the percentage of increase to the employees' salaries and wages. However, if there were to be a decrease in the certified cost of living rate, it's been the court's practice not to adjust salaries and wages downward to reflect that decrease; employees would receive salaries and wages with the 2.5 percent increase approved Tuesday.
