WAYNESBURG - A fire ravaged the interior of a Waynesburg house this morning, as firefighters fought excessive smoke to get to the source of the blaze.

The home, located at 2550 Ky. 1948, a few miles off of U.S. 27, is owned by Walter Saylor, according to the Lincoln County Property Valuation Administrator's Office.

Units from the Lincoln County Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene about 7:55 a.m.

No one living in the single-story house with a basement was home at the time of the blaze.

Several neighbors watching the massive smoke roll out of windows said Saylor was out of town on a few days of vacation.

About 9:15 a.m., firefighters were still attempting to control the smoke and get to the source. Two engines from the department were moving strategically to better combat the fire.

One of the fire engines relocated from its position in front of the house to the side, near what appeared to be a garage.

Waynesburg Emergency Medical Service also was on the scene in case a firefighter was injured.

From feet away from the home, the exterior appeared to remain intact, with the possible exception of a destroyed front door. The windows to the home were stained black from the smoke inside.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
