LAWRENCEBURG - A Harrodsburg woman was struck by a vehicle while walking Saturday night on a busy stretch of U.S. 127.

Anderson County Sheriff Troy Young said Jennifer Eberwein, 32, of Harrodsburg was walking in the southbound passing lane near Eagle Lake Convention Center, just south of U.S. 151, when she was hit about 11:05 p.m.

Young said a vehicle swerved to avoid Eberwein, who was reportedly walking along the yellow line. However, the car following behind it, a 2003 Nissan Altima driven by Kara Johnson, also of Harrodsburg, could not avoid hitting Eberwein.

Eberwein was treated on the scene by Anderson County Emergency Medical Service and taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of head and neck injuries.

It is currently believed alcohol was a factor in Eberwein's actions, said Young.

The investigation is on-going by the Anderson County Sheriff's Department, and Young said a reconstructionist was expected to return to the scene today.
