Truman E. Bastin, 79

Truman E. Bastin, 79, of Stanford, died Sunday, Jan. 11 at Fort Logan Hospital.

A native of Lincoln County, he was born Monday, Nov. 11, 1929, to the late Ray and Ethyl Robinson Bastin. He was a farmer, retired employee of Saufley Implement Company, former deacon of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, currently a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, and the widower of Laura Moore Bastin. He served during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart with the Company L, 15th Infantry Regiment.

He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Jane Bastin of Stanford; a son, Truman D. (Kelly) Bastin of Glasgow; a daughter, Susan (Rev. Jason) Moore of Ferguson; two stepsons, Ricky (Patty) Cromer and Wayne (Jennifer) Burton, both of Brodhead; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (Jody) Elam of Crab Orchard; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Sam Bastin of Stanford; and three sisters, Bessie Allen of Stanford, Dean Enging of Mississippi and Ann Andress of Ohio.

Funeral services were Jan. 14 at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with Rev. Jason Moore and Bro. Marvin Cromer officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion and the United States Army.

Active pallbearers were Chase Moore, Jody Elam, Mark Bastin, Ricky Cromer, Travis Bastin and Wayne Burton. Honorary pallbearers were Barbara Smith, Caleb Moore (his grandson), Charles Machal and Robert Elkins.
