The weather warmed up to the mid-30's but a gusty wind chilled the several dozen assembled on the court house steps, andprompted Mistress of Ceremonies Arthenia Brown to hold an abbreviated ceremony.

After reciting singing "This little light of mine" and reciting the 23rd Psalm, the group left the court house and marched behind banners and flags to the First Missionary Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Street singing "We shall overcome."

At First Missionary the celebration continued with a moving sermon by the Reverend Joseph "Shea" Brown that Stanford resident Luzia Foster said "really drove it home."
