Community Education council plans Employment Day in April

The Clark County Community Education Program Advisory Council held its regular bi-monthly meeting Jan. 20 at Central Bank. Special guest was Clark County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ed Musgrove.

Minnie Spangler of East Kentucky Power Cooperative was named a new Advisory Council member by consent.

Cora Heffner, Community Education director, announced that January is National Mentoring Month and The Winchester Sun will be running an article with photos of Partners In Education mentors and an ad to thank those who participate.

The spring schedule will be mailed Feb. 12 to all households in Clark County. New classes will include guitar, Access, keyboarding, home business (free) and a free Technology Academy for parents of English language learners.

The following events are on the calendar: Redistricting forum, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. at the People Helping People building on Wainscott Avenue; Community Action Plan forums, Feb.12 from 6 to 9 pm and Feb. 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 am at George Rogers Clark High School, 620 Boone Ave.

Employment Day will be in April with the date and times to be announced.

Jim Porter, director of the Adult Learning Center, reported that he had recognized youth member Brad Stephens as a community leader at last week's Leadership Winchester meeting.

Karen Bothun, Clark County Area Technology Center principal, reported that the new health sciences teacher started in December and she now has new teachers in all areas. The welding advisory committee meeting in December had over 30 people in attendance and at least three businesses agreed to donate materials to the welding program.

The next meeting of the Community Education Advisory Council will be at noon on March 18 at Central Bank. All meetings are open to the public.

In addition to Musgrove, Spangler, Porter, Stephens and Bothun, those in attendance included Carl Hensley, community volunteer; Henry Branham, Clark County Judge-Executive; Hannah Cox, youth member; Karen King, Health Department; Mary Davis, Chamber chair; and secretary Lisa Stephens.
