Local students to compete math contest
LEXINGTON - Middle school Mathletes® from several central Kentucky schools will compete in the Bluegrass Regional contest of the national MATHCOUNTS program on Feb. 28 in the White Hall Classroom Building on campus at the University of Kentucky.
The competition has been organized by the Bluegrass Chapter of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE).
A total of 20 schools and over 150 students are scheduled to compete, including: Bath County Middle School, Beaumont Middle School, Bourbon County Middle School, Bryan Station Traditional Middle School, Clark County Middle School, Crawford Middle School, Edythe J. Hayes Middle School, Jessie Clark Middle School, Leestown Middle School, Lexington Traditional Magnet School, Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School, McNabb Middle School, Morton Middle School, Saints Peter and Paul School, School for Creative and Performing Arts, Seton Catholic School, Southern Middle School, Tates Creek Middle School, West Jessamine Middle School and Winburn Middle School.
Students will compete individually and as teams. Subjects include algebra, probability, statistics and geometry. Winners will receive awards and will advance to the State MATHCOUNTS finals in Lexington on March 28.
