Corning to lay off workers

February 13, 2009

HARRODSBURG - Corning Inc. announced Tuesday that its Harrodsburg plant will be among those affected by companywide layoffs.

The factory will be part of a 16-percent reduction in the company's display technology workforce.

Corning spokeswoman Kelli Hoppmichlosky said that both salaried and hourly workers will be subject to the layoff, with salaried workers receiving severance packages.

Hoppmichlosky said the company would not release the number of employees at the plant or a specific number of employees who would be subject to termination for competitive reasons.

She said that the restructuring would likely happen by the end of next month.

"These actions will be taking place during the first quarter so that should be complete by the end of March," said Hoppmichlosky.
