Taylor: Postseason nears

The calendar hasn't turned the page, but madness is in the air.

The George Rogers Clark basketball teams will conclude the regular season on the road tonight. The Cardinals will take on Ballard in Louisville, while the Lady Cardinals will take on Pendleton County in Falmouth. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m.

Both teams will open the 40th District Tournament next week in Paris. The Lady Cardinals will meet Paris at 8:15 p.m. Monday, following the Montgomery County-Bourbon County contest at 6 p.m.

The Cardinals will meet Paris at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bourbon County.

Montgomery County and Bourbon County will meet in the second first-round encounter at 8:15 p.m.

Williams selected

George Rogers Clark senior Ryan Williams has been selected to play in the "Best of the Bluegrass" East-West All-Star Classic this summer.

The contest will be played at Western Kentucky University on June 12.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

Williams, who set a single-season rushing record for the Cardinals last season, will play for the East squad, coached by Boyle County's Larry French.

Williams competed in the "Border Bowl" In January and has yet to pick a college to attend next season.

Williams has Western Kentucky on his list of favorite schools.

Knowles on fire

Former George Rogers Clark standout and current Louisville guard Preston Knowles has been giving the Cardinals a spark during the past two games.

The sophomore guard has scored 30 points in the last two games, including 19 in a 99-54 win over DePaul last Sunday.

Louisville will be on the road at Cincinnati Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Wallace returns

Former George Rogers Clark softball standout Emily Wallace is returning for her second season at Limestone College in South Carolina.

Wallace will be a sophomore and recorded 13 wins last season.

Wallace struckout 81 batters and walked 16. She had a 2.80 earned run average in 190 innings of work.

The Lady Saints open the season this weekend.
