A local industry, Niles America Wintech, announced Friday that it will implement "substantial" layoffs in its manufacturing staff over summer.
In a brief statement, the company said changes in global economic conditions resulted in a review of Wintech's business operations.
"After intense analysis and a great deal of deliberation, the management of Niles America Wintech has determined that it must substantially reduce the manufacturing operations at Niles America Wintech," the company said.
Reductions are anticipated between June and August, but the company has not disclosed the number of employees affected.
A spokesman from Wintech said Friday morning that company officials plan to release more information in the next two months.
"At this point, the press release is really all the information we are willing to release simply because we don't have a lot of the details hammered out yet," said David Ledbetter, assistant human resources manager.
Ledbetter said Wintech is required under federal law to notify city officials of mass layoffs within 60 days. As the deadline nears, he anticipates releasing more information.
