Letter to the editor for March 12

Paper's Web site keeps its readers informed

Dear Editor:

I wrote you a month or so ago in concern for my sister when I lost phone contact with her before an expected tornado. There was no tornado, but I didn't know that. I live close to Seattle and wrote to complain of The Winchester Sun's lack of the tornado news I had expected online.

She, as you all did, suffered through the ice storms when she called the first time to say she and her betrothed lost power and lived for two days at 25 degrees. They were leaving, and she wanted me to know they wouldn't be back at that phone number until power was restored. They would be with a generous relative with alternative heat.

She has had serious illness in the past, and when she called me, frightened and concerned over the expected tornado, I was worried when contact was lost. We were lucky. She is fine.

I have just bought a subscription to your newspaper for her so that she can be kept updated on your weather and events.

You have an interesting newspaper, and I hope you weather the newspaper challenges into the new age of communication.

Sincerely,

Sharon O'Hara

Seattle, Wash.

Editor's note: Ms. O'Hara's sister thought there was a tornado because the storm siren sounded, but the same signal that is used for tornadoes is used to alert people of all severe storms. To our knowledge, there was no confirmed report of a tornado in Clark County that day.

Sheriff commended for business watch

To the Sun:

Our thanks to Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. and the Clark County Sheriff's Office for their neighborhood and business watch program.

We have been the recipients on a number of occasions of the door hangers indicating our property had been checked. Hats off to your providing quality policing service to our community.

Sincerely,

Bob and Janet Haney

Ford
