Police are still searching for the second suspect in a police pursuit that led Winchester officers into Lexington Monday afternoon.

The driver, 25-year-old Kenneth Baumgardner of Winchester, was captured in Lexington after his car quit and there was a short foot pursuit by police, Winchester Police Chief Kevin Palmer said.

It started with a drug investigation in which Baumgardner was supposed to sell cocaine to

an undercover officer about 5 p.m. Monday.

According to the citation, Baumgardner fled as narcotic detectives attempted to arrest him on Bell's Alley. Baumgardner allegedly tried to hit the detectives as he drove away, but they were not injured.

"This guy had been bringing drugs into the community," Palmer said.

Officers said Baumgardner hit another vehicle on Lexington Road near Shoppers Market during the course of the pursuit. No injuries were reported.

Baumgardner was captured after a brief foot chase and was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, wanton endangerment of a police officer (two counts), first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest.
