McDowell Museum gets grant

March 29, 2009

McDowell House Museum recently received two grants that will assist with renovation costs and programming.

The museum received a $3,000 grant from the Lexington Medical Society Foundation. The grant will focus on educating children by subsidizing field trips to the house, bringing the McDowell House's travel trunk into classrooms and supporting the education director and intern positions.

The Museum also received a grant from the Kentucky State Society Children of the American Revolution. The society donated $2,543 to the museum to be applied toward the renovation of the operating room. K.S.C.A.R. also strives to build public awareness of the Dr. McDowell house and his contribution to medical history.

Executive Director Carol Senn noted, "The McDowell House Museum is very grateful for the generous grants from the Lexington Medical Society and Kentucky State Society Children of the American Revolution. Because of their support, the McDowell House will be able to tell more people Dr. Ephraim McDowell's story and keep the museum in good condition."
