Story: "I had an Afro when I was in high school. Thankfully neither of my children inherited my hair."

Question: If you had to describe yourself using three words what would they be?

Story: "Passionate. I am passionate about life. Caring. I care about the people. Practical joker. I love to joke around with the ball team and students."

Question: Do you think your wife would use the same three words to describe you?

Story: "No. She would probably say handsome, strong and very intelligent. Just kidding. I don't know what she would say, but I would hope that she would say that I was a good husband and a good father."

Question: Coaching can be very stressful on a family. How well do your kids and your wife Kristen handle the stress?

Story: "They are all amazing. My wife gives up so much so I can do what I love and I appreciate her so much for that. Our anniversary, her birthday, Christmas, and Valentine's Day all fall during basketball season, so a lot of times we don't get to celebrate the way she would like. I am going to make up for it, though, by taking her on a cruise."

Question: Every coach hopes to leave a legacy. What legacy would you like to leave?

Story: "More so than a win-loss record or title, I hope the girls remember me as a role model and someone they looked up to. I hope that they can look beyond the hard times to see the big picture. I hope that in the end I have had a positive impact on their lives and who they will become in the future.

"Basketball can consume you, and when you want to win it becomes very important. A lot of things and a lot of people have to make sacrifices. You feel the pressure because that is what is expected, especially when you have a good team.

"But in the end, when the day is done, it pales in comparison to certain things in life like the birth of a child, seeing your son baptized, losing a loved one and being the husband and father that God intended me to be."

There are many great coaches in the 12th region and Don Story is certainly one of them. He exemplifies the characteristics of a good coach both on and off the court. He is a good coach and he is a good man. And now you know - the rest of the Story.
