It remains to be seen whether or not Scott Padgett will be part of John Calipari's first staff at the University of Kentucky.

Reportedly, Padgett is in the mix to serve on Calipari's staff, giving the Kentucky coach a familiar insider within the program.

Padgett played at Kentucky from (1994-99) and played on the school's national championship team in 1998. He also played in the NBA with the Utah Jazz, the Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets and the Memphis Grizzlies.

Padgett attended Calipari's press conference on April 1 and offered his insights on the Cats' top boss.

What kind of change do you think Calipari will bring to Kentucky?

"Obviously the style of play is going to change from Day 1. The demeanor is going to change, and I think the attitude and confidence level will change. When you bring in a guy like John Calipari, you have confidence in him because he has the track record and the background to know he's going to steer you in the right direction."

What do you think of Calipari's performance in his first press conference as coach at Kentucky?

"I thought he did a great job. He came in, he was funny and he answered the questions honestly and straight forward. He did what we expected him to be, the guy that won't have a problem sitting in front of the press and say what he feels like he needs to say. I don't expect him to have a problem with the media or the fans. That's the last thing I would worry about with this coach. As a recruiter, he's as good as everybody right now. This is an exciting day in college basketball."

How do you feel about John's belief to put the players first?

"I agree. (The) coach's jobs to me, are to put you in a position to succeed, but at the end of the day a player has to perform. I think what he's going to do is go out and get the best players and put them in a position to succeed. When you can put good talent with a good coach, it makes a good recipe to succeed."
