LANCASTER - Former Garrard Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Grubbs pleaded not guilty Monday to seven counts of official misconduct.
Grubbs' attorney, James Sanders, entered the plea before District Judge Janet Booth, who set a pretrial conference for May 11.
Grubbs was indicted last month on seven misdemeanor misconduct charges stemming from her time as circuit clerk, before she retired in December after being suspended in the middle of an investigation by the state Administrative Office of the Courts.
Grubbs allegedly wrote cold checks and IOUs to get cash from her office account on five different occasions in 2008. She has since paid the money back.
She also allegedly attempted to shield her daughter and a deputy clerk from court action by hiding files instead of filing them properly.
