Volunteers needed for crisis center

April 24, 2009

Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center in Lexington needs volunteers from Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln, Jessamine and Mercer counties.

Training for volunteers, who are needed to serve as emergency room advocates for victims of sexual assault, will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 12 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 13, 20 and 27 at the center's Lexington office. Attendance is required all four days.

Volunteers must be at least 20 years old, have reliable transportation, and agree to a background check, initial individual interview and a six-month service commitment.

Responsibilities include being on call a few days each month. The center provides an "on-call" cell phone that is traded among volunteers serving on call.
