STANFORD - A Stanford couple were killed in a head-on collision on Hall's Gap Hill on U.S. 27 in Lincoln County about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lincoln County Coroner Bill Demrow said Wanda Nance, 29, of Stanford apparently lost control of her car going north down the hill, crossed the center line and hit an oncoming southbound pickup truck head-on.

Nance was transported to Fort Logan Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Greg Hager, 31, of Stanford, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Linda Ruckel, the driver of the pickup truck, was treated at Fort Logan for minor injuries and released following the crash.

Demrow said wet roads appeared to have caused the Pontiac Grand-Am that Nance was driving to skid into the oncoming lanes. The tread on the car's tires also was found to have been worn down.

Both Nance and Hager were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash kept U.S. 27 blocked for several hours, and traffic had to be rerouted onto Old Hall's Gap Loop.

Demrow said a school bus was in a line of traffic behind the collision, but initial reports that the bus was involved were erroneous.

Demrow said an autopsy would be performed today on Nance by the state medical examiner in Frankfort.

Hager's funeral arrangements are at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford.

Demrow said Nance's remains will be returned to her family in Michigan.
