You can help: Homeless families include pregnant woman, husband

May 15, 2009

In April, nineteen homeless families came to Community Services seeking help with housing.

One request came from a husband and wife who are in the fourth month of a high-risk pregnancy. They have been married four years and have had seven miscarriages.

They are long-term residents of Clark County and have been on the waiting list for housing assistance since he was laid off from his job as a security guard in December. They lost their apartment because they could not afford the rent and separate utility bills.

The couple have found a more affordable apartment that includes utilities. Although he draws unemployment, it is not enough for the required down payment and first month's rent.

He is confident that a job will open up very soon, but the stress of moving around from family to friends may trigger another miscarriage.

They desperately want to carry this baby full term and stabilize their living arrangements.

This is a young couple in their 20s who are also caregivers for an elderly parent in poor health due to heart problems. Funds are needed immediately to help this couple. They need $400 for a down payment and $450 for first month's rent. If you can assist with this need, please send a donation to Community Services, P.O. Box 574, Winchester, KY 40392.
