The University of Kentucky released a statement following allegations by the NCAA that the University of Memphis committed a major rules violation during the 2007-08 season.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the allegation states that "knowing fraudulence or misconduct" was committed on an SAT exam by an unnamed player. Current coach John Calipari wasn't named in the allegations. The paper also stated that Memphis received the notice from the NCAA on Jan. 16 concerning the alleged violations.

The University of Kentucky said late Wednesday that Calipari is cooperating with officials.

"First and foremost, there are no NCAA allegations against UK head men's basketball coach John Calipari," the release said. "Coach Calipari was forthcoming with the University of Kentucky during the hiring process about any issues under investigation at the University of Memphis at that time. It is normal procedure for the NCAA to ask a former coach to participate in a hearing. Therefore, coach Calipari will participate as requested.

"Coach John Calipari has received a letter from the NCAA stating that he is not at risk of being charged with any NCAA violations in this case."

Calipari also issued a statement.

"Even though I'm not at risk, I will fully cooperate with the NCAA hearing. Beyond that, I

concur with the statement from the University of Kentucky and will have no further comment."

University of Memphis athletics director R.C. Johnson wasn't happy with the report.

"We take it very seriously. We don't condone it," Johnson told the Commercial Appeal. "We're doing a thorough investigation."

Memphis and Calipari will answer to the allegations in an NCAA Committee on Infractions hearing on June 6.
