June 02, 2009|Mike Wynn and Rachel Parsons

The Winchester Board of Commissioners and the Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission will both meet this week.

The meetings are open to the public.

The Planning Commission will meet tonight at 7 in the Fiscal Court room. The agenda includes a public hearing on a proposed zoning amendment and preliminary development plan for single family housing on 208 acres of land at 2299 McClure Road and 3550 Colby Road.

Planning Commission meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be July 7.

The Winchester Board of Commissioners plans to meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at City Hall to continue discussion of the city's 2009-10 fiscal year budget.

Commissioners are scheduled to hear comments from seven departments and organizations over funding requests this year, including Winchester Police and Winchester Fire-EMS.

Officials expect to begin making decisions about budget allocations as early as Wednesday afternoon once representatives from all the organizations have had a chance to present their requests.

So far, a draft of the 2009-10 spending plan includes a $14.4 million general fund and $5.3 million in capital funds. Commissioners say they expect to pass funding cutbacks this year as the city seeks to close budget shortfalls.

In addition to budget planning, the commission is scheduled to appoint a new member to the Winchester First board and approve a development agreement for Winchester Plaza.
