Another prep season has come to a close at George Rogers Clark.

The season officially ended when the softball team dropped a 3-2 setback to Montgomery County in the 10th Region championship last week.

Overall, the year was considered a success, considering three teams reached the regional finals over the course of the past 10 months. Four student-athletes - Kelsey Palmer, Chase Kindred, Katie Craycraft and Jonathon Hubbard - competed as individuals at the state level.

Palmer and Kindred each won first-round matches at the state tennis tournament, before falling in the second round. Craycraft and Hubbard were part of the state track and field championships.

Along with the softball team, the boys and girls basketball teams also reached the region finals. The Cardinals suffered a 51-43 loss to Mason County in the region finals at the Bank of Kentucky Center at Northern Kentucky University. The Lady Cardinals fell to rival Montgomery County in the regional finale at Harrison County.

The Cards finished the season with a 25-7 record and were runner-up in the Republic Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic.

The Lady Cardinals won five or their last seven games - with both of those setbacks to Montgomery County - and finished the season at 18-10.

The football Cardinals raced out to a 5-2 start, but lost steam and finished the season with a 6-5 record. Clark lost 37-7 to Fern Creek in the first round of the playoffs in Louisville. Senior running back Ryan Williams set a single-season rushing record with 2,003 yards.

The baseball team went 22-12 and stunned favorite Bourbon County in the 40th District finals, before losing to Campbell County 6-5 in 13 innings in the opening round of the regional tourney.

The boys soccer team followed up its state runner-up season by going 5-6-4, losing to Bourbon County in the first round of the district tournament. The Lady Cardinals finished with a 6-9-3 mark and also lost to the Colonels to open the postseason.
