Clark Regional cutting 24 jobs

June 04, 2009|Sun staff report

Clark Regional Medical Center announced today that it will eliminate 24 positions due to lower volumes and declining demand.

"Like most hospitals in the area, Clark Regional has been negatively impacted by declining economic trends. Higher area unemployment has resulted in loss of health benefits.

Consequently, people are delaying and, in some cases foregoing, health care services which they would normally obtain in a more positive economic environment," said Bob Fraraccio, hospital CEO, in a prepared statement.

Of the 24 positions eliminated, Fraraccio said nearly half were vacant positions, or positions by staff members who transferred to other positions within the hospital.

"We regret the need to eliminate these positions, and we understand the disruptions that are caused in the personal lives of our staff. None of the job cuts will adversely

impact patient care," Fraraccio said in a prepared statement.

Fraraccio did not rule out the possibility of re-filling some of the positions should the economy improve or there is an increase in patient demand.

"If the economy turns and our volume increases, we'll adjust our staff accordingly," Fraraccio said.

Fraraccio said that no one particular department was targeted for the staff reductions and several different departments lost employees.

"It's just the economic troubles of the area," Fraraccio said.

Clark Regional employees 550 people who work in a variety of areas including nursing and support services.
