AARP discusses yard sale fundraiser

AARP Chapter 632 met May 28 at the Generations Center.

Paul Blackwell presided, opening the meeting with the "Pledge of Allegiance." The group sang "Happy Birthday" to Evelyn Hudson and Mae Belle Martin. Wilma Ballard gave the invocation before the potluck meal.

Jim Crowell discussed plans for the June 6 yard sale at the home of Jean Vaughn, 316 Forest Ave. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sale items may be left on Vaughn's carport Thursday, Friday or early Saturday.

Members were given stickers and asked to price their own contributions. All leftover items will be donated to Community Services or Goodwill. Yard sale signs were given out. Don Rose will bring an AARP banner to the sale to help recruit new members.

Rose also gave the treasurer's report. Colista Ledford read the minutes in Vaughn's absence. They were approved as read.

Sympathy was expressed to Don and Janet Rose on the death of Janet's sister, Alice Collins. It was also noted that Marcella Knowles' son passed away recently.

Ledford thanked the members who brought food for Community Services. She will deliver it to the center. Ron Blackburn furnished the chicken.

Members purchased books from the book exchange.

Marie Jacobs and Diana Bates, joined as new members, while 43 members and two guests were present. Garland Roe made the motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Clyde Hudson.

The next meeting will be June 25 at the Generations Center.
