Local student earns CPA scholarship

June 16, 2009

LEXINGTON — Bryan Bulkley of Winchester was awarded a Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KyCPA) Educational Foundation Scholarship.

Bulkley is the son of Jay and Donita Bulkley and will be a senior at the University of Kentucky in the fall. He plans to graduate in the spring of 2010 with a degree in accounting and wants to pursue a master's degree in accounting. At UK, Bulkley is a member of Beta Alpha Psi and serves as the vice president of membership.

The KyCPA has awarded nearly $57,000 in scholarships to college students studying accounting on behalf of the foundation and other benefactors, plus another $15,000 in CPA exam review grants.

"Kentucky needs the leadership that CPAs have to offer," said Bulkley. "I think scholarships are a wise way to encourage students to consider serving Kentucky's need for Certified Public Accountants."
