There will be no local charges for a Monticello man who led police on a 110-mph motorcycle chase into downtown Winchester Thursday.

Winchester Police Capt. Harvey Craycraft said officers captured Mitchell Bell after he crashed his motorcycle and ran on foot. Neighbors started calling the Police Department, he said, and officers located him in an alley between Calloway and Hickman streets around noon.

The pursuit started on Interstate 75 in Madison County with reports of a motorcycle running at extremely high speeds, Richmond Police Sgt. Willard Reardon said. Richmond officers pursued the motorcycle for a short distance, but called it off for safety reasons, and notified neighboring agencies of the speeding motorcyclist.

Craycraft said a Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officer spotted the motorcycle on Kentucky 627 and clocked him at 110 mph on his radar unit. The officer then called Winchester as he pursued the motorcycle into Clark County.

Winchester officers spotted the bike near George Rogers Clark High School, and said it was still moving fast.

"They turned (around) on him, and he was gone," Craycraft said. "He was moving."

Craycraft said Bell followed 627 across Belmont Avenue and onto South Main Street, where he crashed and ran.

Bell was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

Richmond officers told Craycraft they would take Bell back to Madison County.

Reardon did not know what charges may be filed.
