Letter: Unhappy with expanding alcohol sales in Boyle

June 26, 2009

Dear Editor,

In reference to the recent letter from Ernest Martin, I too would like to express my appreciation to Carolyn Crabtree for her stance related to Sunday alcohol sales.

It seems there is no end to this effort to make Danville a wet town.

I guess I was misinformed, but I thought the vote was for a drink with your meal, and those sitting at the next table could not tell if you were being served an alcoholic drink or a soft drink.

I have never been in the restaurants that serve alcohol and don't intend to be, but I understand they have bars and one can sit and drink until they are drunk and leave driving a car, endangering my life and those I love.

Yes, next it will be packaged liquor stores, and then it will be Boyle County sales.

You can see what problems are caused by alcohol by reading the court news and the police blotter.

I don't believe the income taken in from alcohol sales surpasses the expense it takes to patrol, arrest, jail expense and the heartaches and many troubles caused by alcohol.

Maybe some can control their drinking, but others cannot.

Sunday alcohol sales is just another day that can cause family problems and arrests that can keep someone from going to work on Monday.

Ordinances aren't usually passed by giving first reading one day and second reading two or three days later.

We need to remember this at election time.
