Winchester American gets first win

The Winchester American 11- and 12-year-old All-Star team picked up its first victory of the postseason with an 11-3 win over Powell County Monday night at Anderson-Dean Park in Harrodsburg.

The Winchester National team fell to 0-2 in pool play with an 18-9 setback to Eastern American.

Both teams will conclude pool play tonight. Winchester American (1-1) will take on Eastern National (1-1) and Winchester National (0-2) will meet Western National (1-1) at 6 p.m. in Harrodsburg.

Winchester American 11, Powell County 3

Aaron Pope, William Kiniry and Cody Hisle combined on a three-hitter to pace the Americans to the easy win.

Pope started and finished with nine strikeouts, scattering three hits over four and two-thirds of an inning.

Winchester held a 2-1 lead going into the third inning, but exploded for five runs in the third frame and added two more in the fourth to put the game away.

Malik Warner, Riley Morguson, Justin Howard, Cody McCord and Pope led the team's offensive attack with two hits apiece. Warner and Pope each slapped a double.

Pope drove in three runs and Warner finished with a pair of RBIs.

Eastern American 18, Winchester National 9

Winchester National fell behind 6-0, but rallied and forced a 6-6 tie, before Eastern scored four runs in the fifth and put the game away with an eight-run outburst in the sixth inning.

Pitcher Jayvee Farrell went three and one-third of an inning and finished with seven strikeouts.

Farrell paced the team's offense with three hits, including a triple. Kameron Finley, Andrew Flynn, Jordan Williams and Dylan Frazier finished with one hit each.

Williams' lone hit was a double.
