Leadership Winchester accepting applications

Applications are available for the Leadership Winchester Class of 2009- 2010.

The program offers many opportunities such as developing new friendships, building leadership skills, honing teamwork concepts and learning more about one's community, said Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce President Karen Haley in a news release.

Leadership Winchester is designed to promote Winchester and Clark County by facilitating an awareness of the many resources, people and the community.

Participants are required to attend one monthly, day-long session from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. over an eight-month period.

Areas of study during the sessions are city/county services, health and human services, law and justice, education, government, economic development and agricultural development. These classes will involve visits to city, county and state offices as well as industrial and commercial businesses and farms in Clark County. Each class will have an emphasis on leadership and volunteerism.

Applicants must live and/or work in Clark County. Class members are selected by persons outside Clark County based on information provided on the Leadership Winchester application.

Student applications have been dropped off at George Rogers Clark High School for any junior or senior who is interested in participating in the 2009-2010 class. These can be picked up at the chamber office as well. Two scholarships will be provided for these students.

The cost for each applicant is $500. Deadline for entry is July 31, 2009.

Anyone who is interested may stop in and pick up an application at the Chamber of Commerce office at 2 S. Maple St. or call 744-6420 with any questions about the program.
