Drill team heading to national finals

The Licking River Rider 4-H Drill Team has just been crowned the 2009 Kentucky State 4-H Division 1 Drill Team Champion.

The Kentucky State 4-H competition was held July 1 in Louisville. The all female, all gaited horse squad performed a flawless 9 minute precision drill team routine to the theme of "Unmask the Magic of the Mountain Horse" to an appreciative crowd in Broadbent arena.

There were 11 Division 1 squads represented at the competition. The squad will now be traveling to Cookeville, Tenn., on July 24 to compete in the 4-H national competition.

The squad consists of team members from Montgomery, Menifee, Clark and Bourbon counties and includes: Becky McCoy (captain), Emily Robbins (co-captain), Megan Brewington (co-captain), Sarah Crouch (senior rider), Kelsey Burton, Shelby Lowe, Haley Anderson, Taylor Davidson, Dahlia D'Arge, Sofia Fedyna, Meredith Craft, Tessa Skees and Lacy Reed. They are coached by the mother-daughter team of Robin Little and Jenna Ratliff with assistant coach Kirstie Ratliff.

The team wishes to express thanks to the sponsors that supported the team, as well as the Jeffersonville Park, the park commissioner and the mayor for allowing them to use the Jeffersonville horse ring for weekly practices.
