Local boys attend sheriff's camp

July 21, 2009

Six Clark County boys attended a week-long camp at the Kentucky Sheriffs' Boys and Girls Ranch June 21-26.

Aaron Dunn, Gabriel Peters, Chad Conkright, William Stewart, Tyler Tays and Adam Dunn joined other boys from around Kentucky at the ranch located in Gilbertsville.

The Ranch offers an eight-week camping program, alternating one week for boys and one week for girls, designed to build self esteem, moral character and to teach respect for self, others and law enforcement professionals.

More than 30,000 youth have received a free weeklong summer camp experience thanks to donations from the public, according to Ranch Director Jerry Wagner.

"No fee is charged to the children attending as we rely on memberships, individual and corporate donations and fundraisers sponsored by various sheriffs to supply the needs," Wagner said. "The continued support of Kentucky's citizens, businesses and organizations is greatly needed and deeply appreciated."

Campers get a chance to participate in many programs and activities during the week, such as swimming, nature programs, sports and arts and crafts.

Activities and programs this year were designed to teach the children respect for themselves and others with the theme "R-E-S-P-E-C-T... Have a Bundle, give a Bundle."
