According to a Lincoln County Sheriff's Department press release, last Saturday Scott Smith, 48, was arrested for cultivating more than five marijuana plants, a felony offense. Smith, of Crab Orchard, was arrested by Sheriff Curt Folger after he and Deputy Coroner Farris Marcum responded to Turkeytown Rd., near Crab Orchard, regarding a report that Michael A. Morrissey, 49, had been found unresponsive at the residence.
Morrissey was pronounced dead at the scene; an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of his death but no official results are available.
During their investigation officers found 34 marijuana plants growing outside of the residence. Smith was lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Detention Center. Deputy Bill Schnitzler and Trooper Bobby Amon assisted in the investigation. Charges against Smith were later reduced to misdemeanor possession and he was ordered out of the county.
