HARRODSBURG - A new traffic policy for Moberly Road should help make pick up and drop off of students easier in Mercer County.

Parents who drop off and pick up their students at Mercer Elementary, King Middle and Mercer County Senior High schools will have to turn right when they leave the school parking lot, he said.

He said officials are trying to teach "if you're turning right, you're doing right."

Barriers and signs will be in place for the first day of school. Hamilton said the schools will collaborate with the police department for the first couple of weeks to make sure everyone understands the system.

"Right is Right" will be in effect only during the high-traffic times of the school day - the early morning and the afternoon. Hamilton said the times will be dependent on how long traffic is heavy.

Also new for Mercer County Schools is its superintendent. Hamilton started his job July 1. He made the commute from Lebanon and he hit the ground running.

The new superintendent said he spent the first couple of weeks getting to know the district and preparing for the first day of school Aug. 3.

"I want to see our students have success," he said.

Hamilton added he wants to establish goals for the system that can build on student success and prepare them for when they graduate high school. He also wants them to be aware of career opportunities and different ways they can use their skills.
