Net Xpress: Adobe offers free photo-editing edition

August 17, 2009|By SHEILA J. CLARK

Adobe made a few changes to its free photo-editing offerings. First, the company's free Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition was discontinued. Second, Adobe created a free online photo-editing service called Photoshop.com.

On June 30, Adobe discontinued the product and support for Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. An e-mail was sent to alert users of this change on Aug. 9. In the e-mail, Adobe provides current users of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition software with three options for photo-editing solutions.

The first option enables users to continue using the Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition desktop product without interruption. However, they will have to find their own support to do so.

The second option lets current users transition their photos to Photoshop.com directly from the Photoshop Album Starter Edition software. After setting up a free account on the site, users can upload, edit, organize, share and back up their photos all in their online account.

The third option offered an upgrade to Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. This final option is not free, of course.
