Danville was chosen as the official host of the 2010 pageants due to strong community support and its venue, the Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College. Pageant Executive Director Connie Clark Harrison said several locations in Kentucky were enticing, but in the end, Danville showed an overwhelming amount of support.
"Danville is a beautiful city and has so much to offer the pageant, the contestants and their families. Several other towns were very close in the race, however, Danville is the hometown of our current Miss Kentucky USA, Maria Montgomery, and they really wanted to roll out the red carpet for the pageant. They have been 100 percent supportive and we're so excited to partner with them," said Harrison.
Harrison also commented on the boost the pageant would bring to Danville's economy on Thanksgiving weekend. "Between the contestants, their families and supporters, Danville will see hundreds of people that weekend. The hotels, restaurants and shopping centers will certainly be filled," said Harrison.
Seeking contestants
Most importantly, the pageant is now seeking young ladies who are interested in competing for the Kentucky crowns. Young women between the ages of 15-19 are eligible to compete for the Miss KY Teen USA title. Women between the ages of 18-27 are eligible to compete for the Miss KY USA title. Thousands of dollars in college scholarships and other prizes such as a complete new wardrobe, custom evening gown for national competition, and personalized fitness coaching are up for grabs.
Contact the pageant via the Web at www.misskentuckyusa.com or by mail at P.O. Box 22837, Lexington, KY 40522 or by phone at (615) 377-6331. Harrison notes that past titleholders have come from an array of Kentucky towns.
"We've had winners from the bigger cities in Kentucky like Louisville and Lexington, but also from smaller towns that are less known such as Slaughters, West Van Lear and Virgie, Kentucky. Sometimes winners are just tucked away in a small town and need to be discovered! If you think your friend, daughter, granddaughter, sister or niece has what it takes, contact us right away."
