Against alcohol

August 19, 2009|James C. Erwin

Dear editor,

If you are anything like me, when you glance at the Letters to the Editor you drop down to the end and see who wrote the letter and then try to guess what their opinion on the subject issue might be. If this describes you, then you probably have guessed that I would be against the "sale of liquor" in Stanford. You are 100 percent correct. After spending a lifetime dealing with the results of alcohol abuse, I relish every opportunity to vote against alcohol's availability.

In addition, I want to be clear in my opposition to the petition and election it proposes. I want my congregation, my friends and neighbors to know where I, personally, stand on this issue. More importantly, I want the children and young people under my care to understand the potential danger that exists in the use of alcohol, and my enmity regarding the practice.

Thank you for reading this letter, and I hope you agree with me and will vote no in the special election.
