Two arrested in thefts from Lannock area

August 31, 2009|By DAVID BROCK

Danville police made two arrests Sunday night after tracing a string of early morning car break-ins and thefts on Lannock Drive to credit card activity at a local store.

Police arrested Rebel G. Raleigh, 21, of Nicholasville and Rocky G. Adams, 29, of Lexington for allegedly taking thousands of dollars worth of property and credit cards, at least one of which they had used at the Walmart here.

According to police, officer Brian Adams found several items, including a computer and keyboard, on the ground in front of a home at 1542 Lannock Drive. Adams also found both vehicles at the residence had been broken into.

Further investigation showed that cars parked at three other residences had been burglarized, with computers, cameras, jewelry, music players, cash and credit cards among the items stolen.

Police said windows were broken out of two of the vehicles, but all of the other cars had been left unlocked.

Assistant Chief Tony Gray said after one of the credit cards was used at Walmart in Danville, police obtained surveillance tapes from the store. The tapes showed both suspects inside Walmart and exiting the store and getting into a white conversion van.

About 6:45 p.m., officer Josh Faulkner spotted the van being driven by Raleigh and made a traffic stop that led to the arrest. Gray said after several hours Raleigh and Adams confessed to some of the crimes.

Gray said police recovered a large amount of stolen property, including computers, car stereos and credit cards, but some items may have already been sold.

Raleigh was charged with receiving stolen property less than $10,000 and fraudulent use of a credit card less than $500 along with multiple driving violations.

Adams was charged with receiving stolen property less than $10,000 and fraudulent use of a credit card less than $500. Other charges against Adams are pending.

Both are being held at the Boyle County Detention Center. They are expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Boyle District Court.
