Prep soccer: Cards fall short at Bourbon

The George Rogers Clark boys soccer team controlled the game but came up on the short end of the score in a 1-0 loss to Bourbon County Thursday night in Paris.

The Cardinals (0-5-1) attempted six shots on goal, including two by Ethan Taulbee, but couldn't connect. Ryan Blair, Louie Blair, Will MacMillan and Tyler Wallin each attempted a shot on goal, but failed to connected.

"We played well," Clark coach Greg Dyk said. "We controlled every aspect of the game except scoring. We can't score right now and sometime down the road that's going to have to change. As for our shape and possession, I was very pleased."

Bourbon scored its only goal when Sam Wells connected on a score from seven yards out, which proved to be the game-winner.

Clark goal keeper Ben Harris had one save.

In the junior varsity game, Clark posted a 5-2 victory.

Nathaniel Wells led Clark's offensive attack with two goals and an assist, followed by Andrew Walker, Ernesto Arambul and Irvin Juarez with one goal each. Walker and Braxton Williams each added an assist.

Conner Blankenship collected three saves for Clark.

"We came out on fire, showing practice has paid off," Clark coach Patrick Fitzgerald said. "Wells played super with two goals in the opening minutes of the game and Ernesto had a great game. It was nice to get a win."

Next game: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. Lafayette at Cardinal Soccer Complex.
