Centre Sports: Scores from soccer, cross country, field hockey and volleyball

Women's Soccer

Amy Hebbeler scored twice and Brittany Eisner added another goal Saturday as the Colonels shut out St. Mary's 3-0.

Hebbeler scored in the 28th and 78th minutes, and Eisner scored in the 80th minute for 2-0 Centre, which outshot St. Mary's 30-3. Eisner led with five shots.

Rosie McAuley and Kelli Lenz each had a save for Centre.

Cross Country

The Centre College men finished fifth and the women sixth Saturday at the University of the South Invitational at Sewanee, Tenn.

For the Centre men, Jason Parks was 12th out of 123 runners in the 8K race in a time of 27 minutes, 3 seconds. Clinton Cahall was 23rd (27:28), Graham Campbell was 36th (28:17), Willie Polio was 43rd (28:45), Sam Morgan was 55th (29:13), George Zhang was 62nd (29:33), Jack Santos was 6th (29:46).

Bekah Rehkamp ran the 3.1-mile women's race in 20 minutes, 50 seconds and was 17th out of 110 runners to lead the Centre women. Regina Basconi was 32nd (21:29), Haley Gray was 48th (21:36), Bethany Pratt was 53rd (21:46), Hillary Dawe was 63rd (22:14) and Megan Miller was 67th (22:44).

Mississippi State won the men's and women's meets. The Centre men finished fifth with 145 pints and women sixth with 171.

Men's Soccer

Kenyon 3, Centre 2 — At Lexington, Kenyon scored 3 minutes, 50 seconds into overtime and edged the Colonels (0-2) in the Glenn Hyundai College Showcase.

Kenyon led 2-0 with goals in the first and second half, but Centre tied the match up quickly.

At the 62:05 mark, Ryan Garvey scored off an assist from Alex Wegener. Just over a minute later, Harry Gerard scored on a penalty kick.

Garvey had two of Centre's six shots, as the Colonels were outshot 13-6. Aaron Arndt and J.C. Spalding each had two saves for Centre.

Field Hockey

Centre 5, Lindenwood 4 — At Danville, Barbara Parks scored with 11 minutes left in overtime to give Centre a win over visiting Lindenwood (Mo.).

Sarah Humphries scored twice and had two assists for Centre (2-0).

In overtime, Parks scored off of Cynthia Morse's assist to give the Colonels the win. Parks and Humphries each had four shots as Centre outshot Lindenwood 18-10. Patty Cowley had four saves for Centre.

Mary Kate Clodius scored with 27 minutes into the match off of Humphries' assist, but Lindenwood scored three straight after that. Humphries then scored with seven minutes left in the half to make it 3-2 at the break.

After Lindenwood scored again to make it 4-2, Centre got an unassisted goal from Humphries, and then Sally Faulkner scored off a Humphries assist with 23 minutes left to force overtime.

Volleyball

Centre sweeps pair — At Kalamazoo, Mich., the Colonels did not drop a set in beating Franklin College 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) and Baldwin-Wallace (27-25, 25-15, 25-20) at the Kalamazoo Invitational.

Against Franklin, Stephanie Woeste had eight kills and 2.5 blocks, Laura Broughton had 12 digs, Mary Brieschke added 12 assists and Rebecca Pugh had two aces.

In the win over Baldwin-Wallace, Laura Hench led the team with 10 kills, Woeste had 4.5 blocks, Broughton had 14 digs and sophomore Hannah Greer handed out 14 assists and three aces.

Centre plays host Kalamazoo and Olivet College today.
