Letter: Stands by 'outlandish' letter

September 15, 2009

Dear Editor,

I stand by my "outlandish" letter. Though phrasing was changed in another writer's answering letter, his original remark, to me, was "outlandish."

He flatly stated: " ... militia types waving their AK 47s and AR 15s at town hall meetings where Obama was speaking." Unless things have changed, such actions in the vicinity of a president will get one a long vacation in a federal prison.

Also, if our health care is so poor, why do so many from other nations come to this nation for treatment? Why not go to all those rated higher?

Personally, I don't see much difference between the Bush protesters and today's, except the "Bushers" were more personal, and today's are politically flavored. The conduct seems pretty much the same.

As suggested, I viewed YouTube and got a heading, "No video for guns at town hall meetings." Yes, I did see a couple of news blurbs showing one with a weapon on his belt, but was he civilian or law? Whichever, it was apparently legal, as were the two guys standing on a public street with long arms slung across their backs.

As for my "failure hope," be it President Obama or anyone else, if presented legislation is tainted with socialism, smothering burden of government intrusion into personal or private enterprise, or is clearly, in my perception, not constitutional, yes, I am for its failure.

My bottom line is a faith and belief in the people and their ability to overcome setbacks and advance and achieve — the very groundwork of this nation.
